According to data provided by the Committee for Organic Agriculture of the Valencian Community (CAECV), our demarcation is the cradle of organic viticulture in the Valencian Community, as the organic vineyard area in our region represents:
Spain is the world’s largest producer of organic grapes, with a surface area of 164,860 hectares, and the Valencian Community is the third autonomous region with the largest area of organic vineyards.
Of the 19,128 hectares of organic vineyards in the Valencian Community, 15,130 hectares are located in our demarcation, that is, 79%. In addition, 53 of our wineries are also certified by the CAECV to produce and/or bottle organic wines.
For this reason, we hold the number 1 position in the ranking as the region with the largest surface area of organic vineyards in the entire Valencian Community. These figures demonstrate the commitment of DO Utiel-Requena winegrowers and wineries to environmental, economic and social sustainability.

One of our key commitments is to the territory. We understand that the future of our viticulture and winemaking depends largely on the development of the territory itself, an inland rural area facing depopulation and generational challenges. To support the region, various actions are carried out.
In short, from the Regulatory Council we help to promote, encourage and spread wine culture throughout the territory.

The most significant is the Educational Project for the Integration of Wine Culture, which has been running for over 10 years. Its main objective is to help young people see their land as a future project. To achieve this, we work with the five secondary schools in the region and with the School of Viticulture and Oenology of Requena.

Other social sustainability actions we carry out include supporting initiatives and events through sponsorships or collaborations. This is done in coordination with regional entities in order to join efforts, take advantage of resources and work towards the same direction. These include, among others, the cycling race Vinibike, the Wine and Verses Festival and Tierra Bobal Fest.

We have also been organising training courses for hospitality professionals for over 10 years. These courses help train restaurant staff so they can offer wine service recommendations of excellence to both local and visiting customers.
The DO Utiel-Requena Regulatory Council is a non-profit organisation. Therefore, all the money raised annually from fairs, events and tastings is donated to local associations, supporting the important work they carry out in the region.
