A Regulatory Council is an institution responsible for representing, defending, researching, protecting and promoting its protected products. It guarantees and recognises differentiated quality thanks to the environment where the grapes are grown and the wines are produced, as well as the human factor involved in the process.
At the Regulatory Council, we are responsible for:

The main functions of a Regulatory Council are three:
The Certification Department is responsible for controlling the production and origin of the grapes, the winemaking process and the final product quality. It traces and authorises wineries, analyses wines in laboratories and carries out tastings with the DO’s own tasting panel. It also ensures compliance with regulations, particularly the Statutes and the Product Specification.
The Communication Department promotes the Utiel-Requena brand and its wines at local, regional, national and international level through activities such as trade fairs, tastings, events and media campaigns.
Both departments are also responsible for training activities aimed at winegrowers, oenologists, restaurateurs, students and the general public, through conferences, forums, courses and tastings.
Our Regulatory Council has three sources of funding:

It is the governing body. It is made up of nine members elected democratically every four years. Representatives include the winegrowing sector, bottling wineries, non-bottling wineries, cooperative winegrowers, independent winegrowers, a technical member of the administration, a legal advisor and the Secretary of the DO.
Composed of professionals from the sector with extensive experience. Its role is to ensure the quality of the wines and, through blind tastings, assess and verify that they meet the high-quality standards established in the regulations. DO Utiel-Requena has its own tasting panel.
